2 days hunting in a steady rain encompassed my weekend. The deer traffic was light but still managed to spot a few.
Here's a good one - I'm sitting in a ground blind due to the rain and out pops a Doe about 10yds away. She sees me real quick and jumps off. She then started trotting back straight to me. Range her at 40yds and get the bow up. She proceeds to stare right at me and lowers her haunches to drop a load. She's straight on at me at this point then turns her head to the side and opens her mouth a bit with renewed vigor. Finished and takes 2 hops into the woods....Never seen that before! At the end of the day - I just couldn't bring myself to bring down something like that.
I had 6 doe come through late Sunday night. The executive decision was made that due to the time, my location in proximity to my truck (FAR away), my distance from home, the rain, it's only does and it's still early in bow season that I would pass. Enjoy it while you can ladies.
I have yet to inspect the trail cam from a still unusable stand at this location but will post those later on. It's in a phenomenal ambush spot and lots of activity but I need the leaves to fall before I have my lanes.
A good sign for the spring, if the coyotes don't decimate em', are the 12 turkeys I saw on Sunday. 3 Hens and 9 Jakes & Jennys! (9 pictured)
My ground-blind view for the weekend: (the doe popped out right behind the jackpine in the second picture & had the 6 doe cross at about 20yds in the first picture)
